Two Moors Way - Day 2 & 3

Thursday 23 July 2015, Written By John Churchley

Great way to start off the year was with two days of walking the Two Moors Way. We (Steph, John Snr and I) set off from Ivybridge late on the 1st January which meant we had to adjust the walk so as not to finish in complete darkness so finished at a road junction near The Barn Forder Farm (Combe). The weather was misty the whole day so we weren't able to enjoy the supposingly stunning views! Dad got a bit worried after 3pm about finishing in the dark so attempted to rush us along but Steph was having none of it! At the end of day we were soaked as the drizzle had turned to rain for the last 20 mins of the walk, we also finished in the dark as expected but completed the walk on a path we knew well from our time living in the area (Buckfastleigh). We made good time as much of the walk involved walking along the Redlake Tramway and later the Abbots way.

On day two (2nd) I added an extra hill to the start of the walk which left Steph cursing me by the top! It was a much slower day with harder terrain however it remained dry all day which was a blessing. I couldn't resist the temptation of going through Holne and not stopping at the community run tea rooms which I ordering a full cream tea (with two scones). Steph did really well as she developed nasty blisters on the back of both heals so we glad to finish the walk at Jordan. We finished with deserved pint and meal (burger/steak & ale pie) at the Tavistock Inn in Poundsgate.
